Baby Led Weaning 2.0

We had some lessons learned from trying Baby Led Weaning for a week or so last month and we are ready to try again! This time we are doing a few things differently to hopefully have more success!
  • We are making sure Steven is always sitting up correctly in his high chair and not reclining at all. To do this, we stuffed some kitchen towels under his seat for him to sit on and also a few behind his back. This way, we know for sure that he is in the correct, upright position and won't be gagging on anything due to leaning back.
  • We are only trying certain foods that are recommended to start BLW with. We have had success with apples, steamed broccoli, ripe pear, ripe plum, apple, baked zucchini. We are also going to be trying roasted sweet potato wedges, cucumbers, melon and some toast sticks. Those are all recommended to start with and so far, so good. Once he gets the hang of actually swallowing food, we will move onto other things.
Another thing we are trying, which I have had to eat my words on, is rice cereal. Everything I read said that he did not need it and it would not help him sleep longer. But after 6 months my boy was still not sleeping through the night and after about 2 weeks of waking up 3 times a night, mommy was desperate! So one day we tried a little rice cereal before bed and wouldn't you know it? Slept from 7pm to 4am solid. Dang it! I hate it when my mom is right! Ha ha! But we are glad for the sleep.

So wish us luck on our second attempt at BLW. Here are a few pictures from this week. So far, so good!

Checking out broccoli...

Decided he likes it

Yum!

  1. I never knew about the rice cereal trick. I'm going to have to remember that one!
